**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., Pittsburgh, PA,
is seeking a full-time Director of Music. Our vibrant, progressive parish community of 2,500 families encompasses two worship sites: Saint Mary of the Mount Church (Mount Washington) and Saint Adalbert Church (South Side). Both beautiful buildings are historic landmarks in the city and are homes to a welcoming community of parishioners, many of whom are active in volunteer ministries. The Director of Music will inherit a successful program with opportunity for additional growth within this newly formed parish through collaboration with dynamic clergy and leadership. There is a tradition of integrating music into diverse ethnic/cultural liturgies as well. The DOM is expected to maintain and implement a vision for energetically engaging our parishioners in worship. Also, since our parish is home to the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s deaf community, there is an added opportunity to engage with an active deaf choir that signs the music sung at the weekly ASL signed liturgy, although a knowledge of ASL is not required for the position.
The DOM will plan the music and serve as the primary organist for three-four weekend liturgies, direct both the singing and handbell choirs, and work with a corps of volunteer and paid instrumentalists. The DOM also will oversee the choice of and perform (play and sing) the music for parish funerals (up to 100 annually) for additional compensation, unless a substitute is contracted. On average there are 65-75 weddings annually, and regular duties include playing for those in which the couples are parishioners (about 50%). He/she exercises the right of first refusal for non-parishioner weddings, also at additional compensation.
Benefits for this full-time position are offered according to diocesan and parish policies. The competitive salary is a combination of a base amount which includes parishioner weddings plus the income from the amount of funerals and non-parishioner weddings to which the DOM commits. A background check and Diocesan Safe Environment training are required.
The search will remain open until the position is filled. The starting date is by mutual agreement. A full list of detailed job duties is available after an invitation to interview is extended and audio/video examples of the applicant’s work are submitted.
