Job Description:
General Summary:
This position serves as both a facilities manager for Nickerson Studios and the primary contact for all recording, audio and visual needs for the SPU Music Department community. The position provides technical support for SPU events on campus, including recitals, master classes, and performances. This position will manage Nickerson Studios including the instruments and equipment, the SPU computer music lab, recording studio, and recital space.
Job Duties:
Responsible for security and safety of the entire Nickerson Studios building. This includes microphones, cameras, and recording studio hardware and software.
Responsible for the safety and security of the Music Tech computer lab (NS 105). All music majors use this lab throughout the year, including for their music technology assignments and homework.
Provides oversight, supervision, and IT support for the Music Tech computer lab, including purchasing and updating software, computer hardware, interfaces, headphones, USB iLoks, etc.
For all concerts (20-50 evening concerts a year), serves as the primary person to set up video equipment to do a professional internet stream of every concert, including multiple cameras, computers with streaming software, and audio mixing and lighting. Each concert represents approximately 5-6 hours of labor (pre-concert emails, set up, performance, tear-down, post-production).
Oversees concert set up, including setting up and tearing down chairs, coordinating student workers and Practicum students, moving pianos, and other stage management duties, etc. This includes overseeing ushers and greeters for concerts in Nickerson.
Serves as recording engineer for most concerts, including recording professional-level audio in Pro Tools to archive for the future. Creates video archives of every concert and secures audio and visual equipment after productions.
Responsible for organizing and training student workers, including hiring, scheduling, and overseeing 3 - 5 Music Department teaching assistants (TAs) throughout the year (Including evening tech lab monitors).
Responsible for the overall organization of recording and archiving of SPU concerts and special events.
Maintain and manage the technical equipment in Nickerson Studios 103 (concert hall), and 107 including microphones, speakers, cameras, cabling, Pro Tools and other software, video switcher, mixing board, recording equipment, computer, and lighting equipment.
Prepares and administers budgets for the recording studio and computer lab.
Supervises load-ins, load-outs, technical rehearsals, special events, and calls as needed on campus (including nights and weekends)
Responsible for moving and checking on concert pianos in the concert hall.
Coordinates and produces outside groups and departments by working with Conference Services staff.
Provides technical advising as needed for SPU events on campus.
Requirements:
Degree in Music or Production, or equivalent required. Advanced degree in music, production, or sound design, a plus.
Skills in collegiate-level music-making; concert production.
Experience in recording, event production and teaching, a plus.
Experience with Mac: including Protools, Finale, Finalcut Pro, Logic, and Ableton.

This is a half time, hourly position, working approximately 20 hours per week.
Salary: $24.63 per hour
This is a half time position with the option for benefits. SPU pays a portion of the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after meeting eligibility in the plan.
