Burlington High School is seeking a passionate and energetic high school
Music Teacher
to join a school committed to high levels of achievement of all students.
This 0.5 FTE position can be combined with a 0.5 BHS Choral Music Teacher or 0.5 Strings Teacher.
The Music Teacher will teach sections of Digital Music, Music Theory and/or Exploratory Music, depending on student interest.
Ideally, the Music Teacher will also be able to teach at least one other musical course such as Guitar, World Music, and Piano.
The position requires teaming with other high school music teachers to co-teach, collaborate, and coordinate classes.
The position also requires after school, evening, and some weekend hours for various concerts, competitions, and other events as designated.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
Job Requirements:
Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
Endorsement in elementary music or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
Documented NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status.
Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Qualifications:
Understanding of cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 in SchoolSpring)
Experience teaching music at the high school level
Familiarity with integrated technology as a learning tool
Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support (e.g, PBIS, Responsive Classroom, Developmental Designs, Positive Discipline)
Knowledge of and experience with recognized high music teaching methodologies (e.g. Orff, Kodaly, Feierabend, Music Learning Theory)
Preferred Attributes:
Training and/or experience with English Language Learners and implementing inclusion practices
Experience in a Professional Learning Community, Critical Friends Group, or other best practice model of professional collaboration
Evidence of engaging with parents, faculty, students, and community to extend and expand musical opportunities
Experience designing and directing large-scale performances/concerts
Ongoing post-graduate educational coursework/training
SALARY:
As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
