Overview
The Audio Dubbing Mixer will be part of the LMC (also known as D-Post) post production team based in London, Chiswick Park. Discovery has 14 channels in the UK alone, led by flagship pay TV brands, Eurosport, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet and free-to-air channels Quest and Quest Red. A Discovery Audio Dubbing Mixer is responsible for recording, track laying, sound-design and mixing, and delivering both long-form and short-form content. They will bring a high level of technical and creative input to ensure every audio session runs smoothly, that our client and stakeholders’ needs are met, and be responsible for delivering the required mixes and audio stems for transmission.
Responsibilities
• The Audio Dubbing Mixer will have the ability to work with or without supervision or direction to record, mix and deliver full mixes and all necessary audio stems
• The ability to mix and create audio deliverables for both short-form and long-form content in a variety of languages, styles and genres.
• Leading recording and mixing sessions with voice talent, producers and any other relevant stakeholders, and creating a comfortable, supportive, effective and efficient environment for all on-site and remote collaborators and clients.
• The ability to remain calm, creative and productive under pressure and when faced with some very tight deadlines
• Responsible for ensuring all of Discovery’s workflow and operational procedures are followed, including, but not limited to, naming conventions and metadata requirements on all projects and outputs.
• Be responsible for running all hardware, software and plugins within the audio suites and reporting any faulty equipment or operational challenges.
• Act as a liaison between Media Services, Broadcast Technology, Short Form & Long Form Producers and the Bookings team.
• Work in tandem with the Edit Assistants, Editors as well as Producers and Department Management, to deliver top of class service.
• To set an example of excellence for the entire staff, from punctual session start times to abiding by all standard operating procedures and naming conventions
• Use excellent and courteous communication skills to keep all parties well informed of each project’s status
• To ensure backups and archives of all necessary project metadata and media is undertaken and follows best practice.
Qualifications
• Highly experienced and advanced knowledge of ProTools, associated audio software and plugins and their capabilities.
• Previous demonstrable technical experience in Post Production, Audio Recording, Audio Production or equivalent.
• Experienced in Adobe audio products.
• Proven capability in the areas of Mixing and Sound Design, track laying and dialogue editing.
• Experience with mixing from and supplying full audio stems as well as creating mixes and stems from scratch
• The ability to think laterally, to formulate creative solutions and workarounds when supplied materials or instructions may not fully meet necessary requirements.
• Ability to handle high pressure situations professionally.
• Knowledge of surround sound mixing techniques and workflows.
• Knowledge of standard audio media files, codecs and media file properties, including their impact on workflows and on the quality of the finished product
• Very strong working knowledge of Avid Media Composer/Avid interplay workflows.
Experience in mixing to the EBU R-128 loudness standard.
