As Manager, Diversity & Inclusion, Content Advisement, you will report to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion. You will build strong relationships within Lucasfilm, becoming familiar with the teams who are responsible for the day-to-day workflow of content creation & marketing (Live Action development, Franchise Story, Marketing, PR, etc.). You will ensure our messaging/materials reflect Lucasfilm's commitment to providing content that is inclusive, culturally authentic and best-in-class in its representation of global peoples, cultures and communities. You will build partnerships with Disney Enterprise D&I teams, RISE team, Employee Resources Groups, and more.
The Manager, D&I Content Advisement will also manage relationships with cultural advisors, non-profit community orgs, employee resource groups and multicultural resources. This engagement begins in the development phase of a project and continues beyond its release to ensure a consistent and comprehensive approach to all executions.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as a key strategic partner to senior creative and production leadership, providing multicultural worldbuilding experience and creative inclusion subject matter expertise to maximize diverse narrative and inclusive storytelling opportunities across Lucasfilm content
• Spearhead multicultural engagement, including creating a multicultural network and designing a framework for engagement. Multicultural networks include cultural consultants, non-profit community orgs, employees, Company diversity and inclusion resources, global Disney teams, and regional legal counsel
• Work with creative development to explore and enhance elements of cultural significance, diversity and representation within our content. Identify potential red flags and inaccuracies and recommend ideas for improvement
• Source, develop and foster relationships with cultural consultants and non-profit community orgs to establish strong and meaningful alliances. Create and champion safe spaces for feedback with filmmakers.
• Oversee the review of marketing and PR materials from a cultural perspective, including posters, trailers, digital campaigns, all press materials, releases, presentations, consumer products, publishing, parks and interactive experiences
• Advise on content, especially stories and characters, to make sure our content is culturally accurate, authentic, and inclusive
• Help create a scalable framework to make sure our content is accurate and authentic from greenlight to screen
Basic Qualifications:
• 4-5 years of experience in multicultural content and/or entertainment diversity and inclusion, communications/PR, or multicultural marketing
• Keen knowledge of the creative filmmaking process and ability to provide creative feedback on projects in pre-production and development, ensuring representation and maximizing diverse storytelling opportunities
• Demonstrated track record of leading or influencing creative inclusion efforts within feature films and series, in partnership with senior creative leadership (i.e., directors and producers)
• Excellent writing, speaking and interpersonal skills, including the ability to cross-communicate complex concepts and issues effectively and with all levels and management within a global and highly matrixed organization
• Strong external/industry network of multicultural resources to leverage in educating team and advancing work
• Nice to have:
• Ability to manage a wide range of stakeholders across various disciplines
• Experience with campaigns or business development strategies for key consumer groups including women, Latinx, Black/African Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Native/Indigenous community, people with disabilities, LGBTQ , veterans and others
• Global work experience, especially as it pertains to diversity and inclusion
• Deep understanding of the Star Wars franchise
