Head Carpenter - VStar Entertainment Tours - PAW Patrol Live! - The Great Pirate Adventure
Touring Position
Start Date: Travel 3/11/2022; Begin Work 3/12/2022
End Date: 8/8/2022 for Tour Refurb
** Possibility of continuing into the 2022 - 2023 touring season **
Primary Objective of Position
• Work with Company Manager, Performance Director, Production Stage Manager and Crew Chief to provide supervision of the carpentry department, staff and local labor, including assembly of the grid and scenery.
• Work with the Company Manager and the Crew Chief to maintain and control carpentry operational expenses and budgets.
• Work with the Performance Director, Crew Chief and Production Stage Manager to maintain the artistic ''look'' of the event from performance and operational standpoints.
• Functions as a ''hands on'' department head working with technical staff to provide maintenance and upkeep of the assigned event carpentry schedules.
Major Areas of Accountability
• Supervise local crews in the construction of the grid trussing, assembly of scenic elements and maintenance of the scenic and physical plant elements.
• Troubleshoot any technical problems encountered. Inform Company Manager, Crew Chief and VPS of any problems requiring shop assistance.
• Be present at pre-rig to make decisions about physical plant placement.
• Work with the Performance Director, Production Stage Manager and Crew Chief to create a master cue sheet of all event cues and scene changes during production. Continue to coordinate with the PSM the cueing and performance of the event throughout duration of the tour. Implement corrections necessary to maintain and/ or improve the look of the event from both performance and crew standpoints.
• Plan and implement maintenance procedures for all carpentry and rigging systems. Assess maintenance needs and implement necessary step to assure operational safety and integrity.
• Maintain current paperwork, which include cue sheets, hang plots, rig plots, truck packs and equipment lists and manifests.
• Work with VPS and C&C shops during the production period to prepare the assigned show for touring. These duties include accepting training for set-up of the scenic elements, rigging of all curtain tracks and flying elements, cueing all shifts for the scenic part of the event, marking & labeling of all items, standard refurbishment and creation of an accurate truck loading plan.
• Work with VSTAR Operations Department, Company Manager and Production Stage Manager to advance the show into each building and to perform site inspections of possible future buildings.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all vendors and clients.
• Work with VPS staff throughout tour to assess problems with show equipment and provide possible solutions.
• All other duties as assigned.
Additional Performance Criteria
• At least 2 - 3 years of previous experience in a leadership role for Carpentry in a similar or related environment.
• Ability to perform assigned duties and responsibilities under minimal supervision, recognizing when assistance is required.
• Ability to effectively train, develop and evaluate assigned staff.
• Willingness to assist other departments on projects with short deadlines and/or peak workloads.
• Adhere to and enforces all established guidelines and safety procedures outlined in VSTAR Road Crew handbook.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with all VSTAR employees.
