The Senior Manager for Podcast Subscriptions will play a key role in building a thriving podcast subscription business that benefits NPR, its Member stations, and the audiences we serve.
The Senior Manager will work closely with NPR -- and partner podcasts -- as well as a range of colleagues from across divisions at NPR, to roll out additional benefits that are part of the NPR subscription program. The Senior Manager will help make decisions about future subscription benefits, guided by data from subscribers and potential subscribers. They will develop deep familiarity with the workflows and potential offerings across NPR’s podcast portfolio. The Senior Manager will help implement subscriber benefits, working with shows, the subscription program manager, and Marketing colleagues to build audiences and drive engagement with current and potential subscribers.
The Senior Manager for Podcast Subscriptions will have a deep understanding of the podcasting industry. This person will need to be a strategic thinker with knowledge of the latest trends and best practices that drive audience conversion and retention.
In all they do, the Senior Manager will actively work to foster diversity as well as cultivate and support an inclusive and equitable workplace.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead efforts to expand subscription offerings beyond sponsorship-free episodes, in ways that engage NPR podcast fans and respect our mission as a non-profit organization. Benefits are expected to include audio, but may range into other forms of engagement.
• Generate ideas for benefits that keep NPR in line with trends in the podcasting subscription industry.
• Work closely with editorial teams to explore potential benefits and execute on the subscription strategy.
• Collaborate on decisions with cross-functional team leads about which benefits to add to subscription offerings.
• Collaborate on decisions about the timing for rollout of additional benefits.
• Coordinate with functional leaders and show leadership to implement and promote benefits.
• Track subscriber data (from metrics, audience surveys, and other sources) to assess satisfaction with existing benefits and interest in potential benefits.
• Track and report on success of new offerings on creating new subscribers and increasing retention rates.
• Coordinate with cross-functional leaders and show leadership on launches of new shows into NPR’s subscription offering.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Experience working cross-functionally with individuals and teams from different disciplines.
• Experience working with editorial teams to create content as producer, editor or reporter.
• Experience interpreting and explaining data.
• Ability to communicate sensitive information diplomatically.
• Ability to thrive in a highly matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to help stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds assimilate information and reach decisions.
• Proven ability to consistently work as part of a team, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system.
• Ability to cultivate and support diversity as well as an inclusive and equitable workplace culture.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Ability to juggle multiple complex tasks.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
