JOB DESCRIPTION
The National Geographic Design Director is responsible for the creation of high-quality creative assets for use in consumer & trade marketing, internal presentations & events in support of National Geographic content. That includes Original Series, Specials, Movies & Events for National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Doc Films theatrical, and NG content on Disney , Hulu & Social Media. The role requires best-in-class creative direction from a skilled creative leader who can supervise design staff, oversee outside production partners & interface with a variety of stakeholders with a goal of helping to accomplish their strategic needs through the use of creative materials. In addition to top-tier style & technical skills, we're also looking for a creative thinker who can ideate on projects across the department & the company.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the creation of design assets for Brand Marketing.
• High-quality art that is presented for approval & produced for use across all of our platforms.
• Oversee the production of creative materials in support of adjacent teams.
• Strategic solutions for a variety of partner requests within the company.
• Manage the in-house print design team.
• Provide creative & managerial support to the in-house team.
• Provide photo shoot & event design supervision.
• Travel as needed to oversee as needed.
• As needed, the Design Director should be able to participate in hands-on design tasks to help elevate our brand style and ensure quality standards across our materials.
Requirements
• BA degree in art, design, or similar degree program.
• 10 years experience in entertainment marketing with at least 5 years as a manager/director.
• Strong creative & design skills required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary.
• Ability to work on multiple projects, oversee design staff & supervise outside vendors.
• Basic math and logic skills needed as they apply to layout/design.
• MAC computer experience mandatory, strong knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design & other design software (MAC format).
• Knowledge of entertainment design / branding in the field of print & digital marketing.
• Strong typographic, layout & presentation skills required.
• Understanding of photography, composition, print production, social media, digital banners & streaming platforms.
