Performance is a part of a dancer and it occupies his or her time. But most of the dancers take up dancing to have a portfolio career and therefore, he or she has to involve performance along with choreography, teaching, administrative and development work, specialized in a dance company. The responsibilities, duties and work of a dancer differ on the basis of contract. But there are some that a dancer has to undertake, these are preparation for the casting and audition sessions, performances, via exercises, rehearsals etc. A dancer has to perform for both live audience and also for films, television, music, videos and other productions. He or she has to be creative and study choreography along with its creation. A dancer also has to make use of other skills and talents, such as acting, singing, if performing in a musical theater etc. Dancers have to undertake workshops in their community, teach dance, liaise with the organizations, management etc for the purpose of contracts, funds etc.
Candidates aspiring to acquire a project as a dancer must possess quality knowledge of the art and other similar issues, have faith, confidence, physical fitness, perseverance and also motivation towards dancing. He or she must have the ability to work in a team and perform in that aspect too. A dancer must have the ability to do the promotion of his or her work and also develop contacts in the process. Promoting oneself is very vital in this profession, therefore, a dancer has to send resumes, run workshops, do the deliverance of presentations, provide with photographs etc.
As a dancer you would have to start at an early age and at least have a graduate degree in similar subject. One can acquire some vocational degrees or courses that enable one to get training as a performer or even get a performing arts' degree to get a dancing career. On the dependence of the dance type one can get his or her graduating degree, like in ballet, contemporary etc.
A dancer's salary or earnings is on the dependence of the work, project or the hour that he or she works for. It can range from $40,000 and onwards annually.
The career path for a dancer is not defined and the development in this field depends on the involvement of the dancer in various performances and other aspects of dance. One can advance in the teaching field, either in the public or the private sector.
